DAY OF SPECIAL INTEREST

JAPANESE ARCHITECTURE, GARDENS AND TEA CULTURE

Speaker; Ms Suzanne Perrin

Our speaker was involved with the Asian Arts Courses for Sothebys at the V&A and the British Museum. She has taught in America and worked to promote educational exchange programmes between universities in Japan and the UK.

Follow the development of sacred and secular architecture in Japan over the centuries. Learn about Tea Houses, and how gardens became an integral part of their design together with the evolvement of tea culture and the ceramics and utensils which have become the classic form of this elegant pastime.

We will be presenting 3 lectures between 09:45am & 3:00pm;

Morning Lecture 1

Introduction to Japanese Architecture, temples, palaces and villas.

Morning Lecture 2

Tea Houses, their gardens and environment.

Followed by lunch.

Afternoon Lecture

The evolvement of Tea Culture and tea wares.
